If most of the festivals featured on this site are a bit on the soft side for your liking, then you'd probably be into Wacken Open Air. Wacken in the largest exclusively metal music festival in the world and taken place in Wacken, Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany. 

 

Wacken doesn't only attract metal lovers from all over the globe, but also draws in the greatest metal bands in the world. Since it started in 1990, the festival has billed bands such as Motorhead, Saxon, Cannibal Corpse, Soilwork, Machine Head, Municipal Waste, Iron Maiden, and loads more. With 3 days of music, you might compare the line-up with that of Download in the UK. However, Wacken is probably a bit more metal... you wouldn't see some of the 'softer' acts that sometimes appear at Download at Wacken. 

 

Now... we've been told that metal fans are the most friendliest of music fans. If this alone isn't reason enough for you to check out Wacken Open Air, then 3 days of pure metal should sway you.
