Sonar, or the "Advanced Music and Multimedia Art" festival, is an annual 3 day festival that takes place in Barcelona, Spain. Sonar usually attracts approximately 80,000 visitors each year making it a massive event in the European festival calendar. 

 

 

The festival is split into two parts (as indicated by ticket prices): Sonar by Day and Sonar by Night. Sonar by Day officially takes place in the Centre of Contemporary Culture and the Museum of Contemporary Art close to the famous La Rambla in Barcelona. The event usually kicks off at about midday through to approximately 10pm at night for al three days. Sonar by Day offers a variety of activities. As well as music concerts, Sonar offers multimedia art, record/clothes fairs, technology demos, The Sónar Cinema and various other activities.

 

Sonar by Night takes place away from Barcelona with coaches available to transport visitors. This part of the festival spans 4 location, which feature a variety of global electronic music with DJs, VDJs and dance concerts dominating. There are a variety of stages, both open air and covered.

 

Previous artists have included Aphex Twin, Beastie Boys, Bjork, Cut Chemist, De La Soul, DJ Yoda, Hot Chip, Kraftwerk, LCD Soundsystem, M.I.A., Pet Shop Boys, Soulwax, The Chemical Brothers, and loads others.
